We at Anwesha CRM launched Salesgenie CRM++ about 2 years back; at Nasscom Product Conclave 2010.

Since then, we had soft-launched Saleswah CRM and what initially was thought of as a complementary product, turned out to have several points of overlap with the main product. It got to a point that it became difficult to manage two products and everything that went with it- perceptions, technology, updates, constantly worrying when it came to adding a new feature, which product will we add it to.

We had to make a choice- we wanted one platform, one product and the choice was Saleswah CRM.

Effective immediately, the Salegenie CRM++ product is being discontinued. The only CRM product we have now is Saleswah CRM.

For those who have seen both, “Saleswah Basic” is what used to be the Saleswah originally- the task management part; now with lead management and assignment added. Saleswah CRM inherits the comprehensive CRM mantle from Salesgenie CRM++- with task management from Saleswah and several new functionalities like sales proposals, purchase orders etc.

Saleswah Sales is expected to be the midway product; for most sales people. It will have everything except the marketing campaign management features.

For a summary of features and pricing of the new Saleswah CRM flavours, visit Saleswah pricing and features. For more detailed product features and capabilities, please go here.

All existing Salesgenie CRM++ customers have a choice to continue using Salesgenie CRM++ till the end of their license terms or migrate to Saleswah CRM.

If you are using MS-Excel® and MS-Outlook® to manage your sales and marketing teams and processes, when do you know it is time to change?

I put together this small list of things you need to watch for- feel free to add yours in comments:

1. When your team size has grown to the extent there is at least one layer of supervision between you and the lowest level- the customer facing executive.

Part view of the Sales Team

2. When your sales force is multi-location; based out of regional offices making regular face to face contact difficult and unproductive.

3. When you have distributors managing sales territories and passing sales leads to them and ensuring they are tracked is a problem.

4. When your monthly forecasting exercise becomes dependent on detailed review of every deal in the funnel rather than focusing on a few key opportunities.

5. When it helps to know the history- past deals, orders, quotes, communication- of the customers to be able to customize offers.

6. When you want to send periodical communication to your contact database, customized to their profile and by their interaction history.

7. When you marketing team (in charge of lead generation) and sales team are at loggerheads because they blame each other for lack of consistency in what leads to chase.

8. When you want the same platform to create, e-mail and store for follow up for sales critical activities like deals, quotes and sales brochures.

9. And, finally, when you want to easily track how each of your activities are creating an impact in the marketplace, which products are being sold most by whom and in which markets or accounts.

Want to see a modern CRM system in action? Call us or Ask for a demo.

Hmmmm, Sales exec12 seems to have lost a few deals last month; and he does not seem to have added many new deals in the funnel recently. Of course, his current month’s forecast seems very robust. Must check!

The current month forecast seems low; universally. Perhaps, I should call a meeting before my boss does!

- What business did we win this month/ previous month?

- What did we lose? How much?

Did we get returns out of our investment in this tradeshow?

If this is the recurring question in your mind after you wind up as an exhibitor in any tradeshow, then read on…

If you are attending any tradeshow as an exhibitor, for instance the just concluded IITF 2011 in Pragati Maidan, Delhi, you know the importance of following up with your visitors as soon as possible.

It is important to reinforce the positive impression that you made on your visitor with a follow-up call; if you don’t, be sure your competitor is already doing it. Often, this is the difference between a lost sales and a purchase order.

Did you know that 79% of the visitors to trade fairs are never followed up on their interests?

It is 6 pm and time for being updated over the days’s activities:

If you run a large team of repair or sales or delivery people, you know the feeling.

Your people have been out in the field all day, attending to customers and now they are trooping back in- one after another.

Now is the time to take stock, know the work that will spill over from today- the repair jobs unfinished, the cheques left uncollected and the customer who was no available at his address.

Not to mention the calls that came in today; that must now be attended only tomorrow.

Hmm… looks like a long night ahead!

The angry customer calls, and calls..

Your repair executive is out in the field- your customer has called three times already since morning. Everytime you are calling your repair executive and checking the progress with his other, high priority calls.

You never have the updated status, when the customer calls.

The phone rings, a customer needs urgent service

Tough; the guys are already out in the field and you don’t know if the nearest person will have the slack to attend- because, you do not know how many calls are still pending from the calls assigned since morning.

Are you still running your large field sales, service, repair and delivery teams using phone and spreadsheets?

How demo management is the bottle-neck for a successful “NPI” process

One of the biggest issues of running a large sales and marketing operation of capital goods (scientific instruments, computers, desktop software, industrial valves and motors, telecom hardware etc) or white goods (refrigerators, TVs, washing machines) is effectively managing a pool of “demo-machines”. If you have a countrywide or even international operations, then managing this is a huge challenge. The problem really becomes acute when you do a New Product Introduction- especially for a product which you hope will be a block-buster.

Companies typically take the asset management route to solve the problem. That is to say, they centrally “allocate” the demo inventory to the regions and the regions do so to sub-regions and the sub-regions then play favourites with their distributors/ resellers or direct sales teams to assign usage.

The way of assessing “ground-up” demand for demo units is ad-hoc, to put it mildly. Some regions or sub-regions will take the trouble of seek feedback from their customers, dealers/ resellers or sales-team; most will not.

The issue does not end with “allocation”. After you have shown a “demo-piece” at a distributor location, you would like to move it elsewhere or even sell it off at a large discount for the logistics of getting the units back to “home location” is often daunting.

For getting reports on the demo utilization, you will stay up late and make those phone calls to regions who are none the wiser. You do not know who is using it and for how long.

So, you have a few crores (or a few hundreds of thousands of dollars) of asset out in the field, around the country or even the world, and you have a very low understanding of how that asset is being used for furthering your NPI objective.

Summary of issues listed so far:

1. No means of surveying the demand for demo beforehand, “ground-up”.

2. Allocation rather than matching demand with supply.

3. No means of knowing who is using the demo-units, for how long.

4. All “interventions” are ad-hoc:

Ship to another destination

Sell off the demo unit

Bring the demo unit back to “home”

Monitoring demand for the demo unit from another location.

So, why not use your ERP to track it?

Most large companies would already be doing so; and chances are they still have the issues I have listed above. ERP, by its nature is an “internal”, inward focused tool. It has no link to channel partners, leave alone customers or allows sales people to forecast their need for demo units.

and, ERPs tend to be expensive.

If you add your sales people and demo co-ordinators and marketing people as users to your ERP, just for this activity, imagine the training cost, licensing cost and so on. Is the cure worse than the malady?

Try Fastock!

Fastock is a brutally efficient hosted software (use it from anywhere in the world over your web-browser with no investment in hardware or software).

Have multiple factories? No problem!
